At the age of 13 he defeated Johnny Lawrence and the rest of the Cobra Kai Dojo to win both the "All Valley Karate Championship" and their respect. Joe wandered the United States for a while, working at Shotz Brewery as well as Arnold's Diner, both in Milwaukee, before settling down in the Greater Toronto Area where he found his long lost son who he thought had perished in a Shaolin temple fire years before.
